Ice Age 2 -- where's the story?
Was it just me or did I miss something? ... Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown had,... well, the most pathetic excuse for a story ever.

As I watched it I kept waiting for the story to start -- the real story. I wanted to see the character conflicts, the plot escalation, dire personal consequences... but all they were offering was a lame stoy with no emotional rolercoaster.

OK. So it was cute. There were some new, and amusing, characters... but really. Where was the story -- even the music was ordinary.

Yes. I wil see it again with the family. We will get the DVD... but It could have been SO much better with a decent story.

Video - Video - too busy -- Video Video
We have to get video hosting going! ... I have way too much I want to show and no way to show it! I am sure lots of other people fell the same... and it's not just animation. We are all about telling visual stories -- in any format!

I have been studying video on the web extensivly of late -- it's exploding in popularity but no one is doing anything more than trying to create the biggest new brodcast channel. We have plans to do a lot more than that -- bit I cant give details away yet

In the mean time I have some way cool stuff to show people -- but it's all animation! ... grrr... got to get video hosing working -- like yesterday.

Back in Adelaide
Whew... back in Adelaide after a busy trip to the US.

Hilights of the trip were:
Visiting Skywalker ranch and my friend Rob Coleman -- aparently George Lucas loves Linda Bergkvists work and her poster book is sitting on his desk waiting for his return.
Rob is working with George on the very early stages of the first ever animated feature Lucasfilm will make -- the start of a whole animated film studio.
It was a thrill to find that Rob uses the CGSociety and our books to find new artists for George all the time

Visiting with friends in LA -- Dan Curry, the long time visual effects producer/director for Star Trek (untill Paramount shut down Production on Star Trek last year). Dan is now persuing a Directorial/Producer career of his own... and doing some great writing also.

VIsiting with Jinko Gotoh -- a great friend and heavy duty producer or animated features (credits include films like Finding Nemo). Jinko is a real mover and shaker with lots of energy and enthusiasm.

Visiting more friends -- Lorne Lanning... creative director or Oddworld Inhabitants. Lorne is loving life after games development. He and Shery are forging ahead with development and pitching their films (more then just Oddworld based properties). It's always a blast hanging out with Lorne.

GDC (Games Developers Conference). Excellent -- the Pivotal moment competition and Gallery went really well -- a huge success for everyone and the begining of so much more... and I have a bunch of new friends to keep up with now I must say that I was pleasantly suprised by the organization and everyone involved with CDG and CMP (their parent company).

OK -- I know I have missed a ton of people and things I did -- some I can't talk about anyway. But I juat want to record a bigh thankyou to all the great people I met -- it's great to work in an industry that I love and with really great people who share the same values and aspirations...

Here's to making the world a better place.

from Star Wars to Star Trek in one day
I had to smile last night -- I started the day at Skywalker ranch (George Lucas's house) and ended the day at Dan Curry's house -- the long time visual effects producer/director for Star Trek.... Star Wars to Star trek in one day -- with a long drive in between. Cool

Wow -- people looking at my art!
Wow -- I have entries in my guest book -- thanks for the feedback

Yes -- I do do art. I thought that it was important to show that the President of the society has actually done this stuff himself. As well as creating 2D and 3D art I have written software (parts of absolute character tools ACT) and worked in production doing modelling, texturing, lighting, editing, compositng, rigging and supervising -- for print, TV and film.

enough of the self PR.

thanks again for the feedback -- very much apreciated. Now I am determined to dig up all my old art and put it in my portfolio -- where it wont ever get lots again!
